Poole has been likened to St Tropez and is probably best know for its beautiful natural harbour and coastline.Poole Harbour is one of the world’s largest natural harbours and its extensive waters provide a magnificent haven for recreational sailing and water sports. Cross channel ferry passengers can enjoy the fastest sea crossing in the Western channel.
Poole boasts 5 miles of award winning beaches and in 2001 achieved the Jurassic Coast Award as recognition for a place of outstanding universal value.
Poole is renowned for its upbeat bars & restaurants, luxury eye catching yachts, sensational sailing, wind & kite surfing championships, Street markets, live music and firework displays.
Extensive trading links with Newfoundland were developed in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries that helped Poole to prosper. Many fine examples of architecture built by the wealthy merchants at this time can still be seen in Old Poole Town today.
Poole became renowned for pirates and smugglers who walked, fought, drank and ate at the many inns, restaurants and streets that can still be frequented today.
Other local attractions are Brownsea Island, the birthplace of the scouting movement, Poole Pottery, with 125 years of pottery heritage infamous world wide can be visited at Poole Quay, Poole Park which holds a variety of events throughout the year including Poole Park Fest and Upton Country park a nineteenth century residence surrounded by formal gardens.
